Waterside Action Group - NO Puppy Farms!

W.A.G. Day 2009

Wag had a very successful fun day at Jamieson Park, Newmilns with an excellent attendance. Despite the gusty wind and Showers there were many bright – nay sunny times – throughout the day and we were blessed with a happy and fun loving crowd of friends, kids and their dogs. We sincerely thank all who attended and supported us.

Wag Day is held for 2 important reasons -

  1. To raise the necessary funding to enable us to continue the vital work of eradicating all puppy farms.
  2. To raise public awareness of the shame that is puppy farming and to allow the public to see how much fun can be had with their dogs.

The day included -

Dancing with Dogs with Heather Smith. Heather has supported all our events and an appreciative audience enjoyed a stunning display by her and friends again this year.

Mountain Rescue gave a practical demonstration, which was most interesting and reassuring should any of us need their help.

Tug of War made it’s depute this year. Not many teams but, watch this space next year.

Car Boot & stalls surrounded the field which added interest to the event and seemed to be well attended as was the Mini Fair.

TThe Companion dog show & Obedience Tests attracted 137 dogs making a total entry of 391. It was particularly pleasing to note that 87 of those entries were for the obedience tests. Winning dogs as follows:

  • Obedience – Judge Mrs E Spiers:
  • Making a Start - D Murray (Ayr) with Holly
  • Getting Better - A Jurie (Larkhall) with Ada
  • Clever Clogs - J Craig (Netherburn) with Spur
  • Companion show top awards – Judge Mr J McIlroy:
  • Best in Show – S McTaggart (Irvine) with Teal
  • Reserve Best in Show – K Torrbett (Maybole) with Chyno
  • Best Puppy – A Rogerson (Darvel) with Kaito Star
  • Best Novelty – M Gross (Kilwinning) with Jaffa

Prizes were given 1 to 6th place in each of the 20 classes with dog treats distributed to all other dogs entered & on the field.

As always there is a team behind such a day and it is impossible to convey adequate thanks to all who made such an important & successful venture happen.
But we do appreciate all of the above for the part they played together with the ring stewards and clerks at the ringside and those who helped set up the venue and maintained it all day.

A special thanks must go to our catering staff on the day. This is always a hot, tiring job, it’s value and importance cannot be underestimated.

There are many individual persons as well as Companies we also have to thank for their sponsorship both financial and goods provided. These we have listed them on our ‘thank you page’ All the prizes given out on the day were donated, which is awesome!

In whatever way our supporters had a part in our 2009 Wag Day we can assure them that we will fight on and we will end the suffering caused by the greed that is puppy farming.
