Well last year we were unfortunate in that WAG DAY marked the end of a heat wave, this year we marked the beginning of one. As with all outdoor events the weather is the most crucial item. This year apart from two sharp showers, the weather was dry and the wind was only a slight gale compared to the normal hurricane!

This year we had more events taking place to attract the public, as well as the car boot sale and play area we had a demonstration of dancing with dogs, performed by Heather Smith, and agility demonstrations from Glennifer Agility Club.

Both of these demonstrations were superb. It was interesting to see a young girl handling a Rottweiler in the Agility demonstration. So much for a vicious breed? This shows that despite the reputation given to certain breeds of dogs it is more important to look at the conduct of the owner.

As before we were inundated with sponsors, it was amazing to see all the gifts, donations and support from companies, friends and supporters. WAG cannot express enough how much this encourages us as a group to continue our campaign.

The Dog Show attracted 116 dogs, with the following results:-

• Best Novelty In Show: Tibetan Terrier (Puzzle) – Owned by Rachel Gilmour
• Making a Start: Cocker Spaniel (Rowan) – Owned by M Smillie
• Getting Better: X Breed (Poppy) – Owned by Jessica Watson
• Clever Clogs: BC (Rouge) – Owned by Doreen Fry

Yet again this has been a resounding success, the exhibitors, public and the hardy old car boot people all left happy. It will be difficult to improve on this event but efforts will be made to do so. Why…… well fund raising is necessary, but it is much more than that, it shows to the public that despite trends in the media you can actually have fun with your dog.
